Game 2: Giants vs. Mets

 

At game time we start with a short delay. It turns out that it is Tonny Bennet 90th birthday and he is a huge Giants fan. Whole city of San Francisco is celebrating his birthday. There was even a bronze statue place in front of the Farimont Hotel in his honor.
For those who can’t see the boys are wearing their cream colored pants and orange jerseys.
Brandon Belt to open the Giants hitting in the 1st with a 2 out triple.
Mets open the scoring in the 2nd with a 2 out solo homer. 1-0 Mets.
Bottom of 3rd Joe Panik singles to right. Johnny Cueto sacrificed to pitcher moving Panik to second. Denard Span singled to right to score Panik. 1-1 after 3.
Top of 6th still 1-1. Home half of 6th Span with a singles to center. Angel Pagán singled to center moving Span to second. Belt grounds into a double play. Span to third but Buster Posey is out number 3.
Bottom of 7th with 2 out Gregor Blanco to hit for Cueto. After a NY pitching change Ehire Adrianza hit for Blanco instead. Adrianza singles to right scoring Eduardo Núñez and moving Panik to third. Adrianza to second advancing on throw. Span singled to left scoring Panik moving Adrianza to third. 3-1 Giants.
Top of 8th Cueto tossed Hunter Strickland the office keys. After getting 2 outs Strickland gives up the office keys to Javier Lopez.
The pond is full here in the bottom of 8th with 1 out. Núñez grounded into fielder’s choice to second scoring Posey but Hunter Pence is out at second. Brandon Crawford is on third. Nunez just stole second. Panik safe at second on throwing error by shortstop, Crawford and Núñez scored. 6-1 Giants. Conor Gillaspie goes the YARD for a 2 run homer making it 8-1.
Top of 9th George Kontos gets the office keys from Lopez to lock up. Lights out (1 out). Runners at second and third. Door is shut (2 out). Kontos locks up (final out) the office with a 8-1 win over the Mets.
Game 3: NY Bartolo Colon against SF Matt Moore. So far Giants have series 2 games to none.

* Top of the 3rd: Zimmer singled to right center. Francisco Lindor singled right. Zimmer and Lindor advanced on the throw. Zimmer scored on a sac fly from Michael Brantley. 2-0 Indians. Edwin Encarnacion singled to center scoring Lindor. 3-0 Indians. Santana singled to right. Jackson hit a ground rule double to deep center driving home Encarnacion. 4-0 Indians. * Bottom of the 3rd: Adam Engel was hit by a pitch. Cabrera reached on an infield single to shortstop. The Indians had a rough start after the All-Star break. They lost 5 out of 6 games. They came home last Friday for a 3 game series with the Blue Jays. After sweeping the Jays they come into today’s game with a record of 51-45. Today’s game is a make-up from May 25.

The Indians wore their navy blue jerseys with white pants. The Reds wore their all gray uniforms. Opening the office was Josh Tomlin (Indians) and Tim Adleman (Reds).

*Top of the 1st: Tomlin’s first pitch was called a ball.

*Bottom of the 1st: Bradley Zimmer opened up the hitting with a double to deep center field. Francisco Lindor reached on a bunt single to third. Michael Brantley hit a sac fly to bring home Zimmer. 1-0 Indians.

Welcome Back! I hope everyone enjoyed the All-Star break. The Indians open the second half of the season with a rough start. They were first in Oakland for 3 games. The A’s swept the Indians under the rug. Then they went across the bay to visit the Giants. The Giants took 2 out 3 games. The Indians return home having lost 5 out of 6 games. The Game they did win was Monday the 17th.

The Indians wore their navy blue jerseys with gray pants. The Giants wore their cream (white – hard to tell) uniforms. Opening the office was Josh Tomlin (Indians) and Matt Moore (Giants).

INJURY UPDATE

Lonnie Chisenhall went out with a right calf strain. Due back possibly late July. He is doing rehab in Cleveland.

Austin Jackson went out with a left quad strain. Due back possibly late July. He was sent to triple-A on the 16th.

Jason Kipnis went out with a right hamstring strain. Due back possibly late July.

Corey Kluber went out with a neck injury. Due back possibly on July 23. He was scheduled to throw in the bullpen today, the 19th.

Boone Logan left the game today with an injury to his left lat muscle.

Danny Salazar went on the DL with right shoulder inflammation. Due back possibly on July 22.

Indians Route Padres

Indians avoid a sweep on Thursday by routing the Padres heading into the weekend series. The Indians wore their navy blue jerseys with white pants. The Padres wore their all gray uniforms. Opening the office was Josh Tomlin for the Indians and Dinelson Lamet for the Padres. Indians manager Terry Francona is still in the hospital. Seems like they are not sure what is going on. He may even miss the All-Star game on Tuesday.
